Assignment #16

Supporting a Cause  Identifying an Audience

An interesting article as a follow-up to the "To This Day" video we viewed:

http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/27/health/cyberbullying-online-bully-victims/index.html?hpt=hp_c1

http://westophate.org/

YOU as students of the digital age are witnessing social media forever-change our culture before your eyes: The Arab Spring, Presidential races, Joseph Koney.....profound, really.  YOU are entering adulthood, armed with the tools of social media...to reach as many people as you wish...to SAY whatever you wish.  Well, what are you going to say?

Description:
Begin the preliminary steps of designing a social-media campaign in support of any cause you choose. (Consider that in Matthew 28:16-20, Christians are called to The Great Commission..."to make disciples of all nations.")

Answer each of the following questions on your blog in fulfillment of Assignment #16:

#1.) What cause do you wish to support using social media?

#2.) Why is this cause is important to you (detailed explanation)?

#3.) What are the BEST websites currently championing the cause you support (list 4 or 5)?

Due Friday, March 8th by 3:05pm!

Missing Grades

All "M" missing assignments will be posted as a "F" by Friday, Feb. 8th.

Seniors, take note:  We are required each week to submit a report of seniors who are failing.  Senior privileges will be revoked, but more importantly: College acceptances and scholarships are provisional; a major dip in grades does terminate acceptances and/or scholarships!

This post is not a scare-tactic...it is simply fair warning (and it is out of love)!!!

Assignment #15

"About" Tab

Description:

Each student has produced a criteria for their understanding of beauty.  Each criteria has been discussed and insightfully reviewed by our class.  Clarity and simplicity are both important characteristics when building a strong online presence.

Mission Statements, vision statements, and thesis statements all act as a written devices that guide content and prevent focus from diverting.  A ship sailing in the fog, being guided by a light house is an appropriate illustration.

About tabs have been observed and read in class.  Now, add an About tab to your website that allows an audience to clearly and simply understand what site is about.  Do not upload this important content until you have sufficiently revised the statement!

If the heart of your mission changes, than so must your statement!

Due Friday, 2/8 by 3:05pm!

Assignment #12

What is Beauty?

Description:
Seeking the answer to this proverbial question has launched life long quests for writers, artists and musicians.  Perhaps a better questions to ask is, "Have I developed aesthetic sensibilities?" or, "Did I have sincere aesthetic intention when adding to my online presence?"  The coming weeks will challenge each student's notion of beauty...some will thrive while others will struggle!

Upload a post to your blog that contains the following:

#1) A written, detailed description of your criteria for what beauty is. 300-500 words.

#2) 10 Images taken from the web  that meet your criteria for beauty.

Gasp...Last Semester Refresh!!!!!

Dear Friends,

As we make a push toward second semester, the following steps must be taken to "refresh" Digital Journaling class.  Taking each step will ensure a successful second semester.  Great websites are in the works...let's finish strong!

#1)  All content saved on a personal thumb drive. (Utilize desktop folder then save to thumb drive)

#2)  All assignments completed on one blog site linked to our new DJ website. (Separate from website)

#3)  Each assignment completed by specified deadline. (a grade -or-"0" recorded in PS at deadline!)

#4)  ALL posts removed from class blog!!!  Class blog to be used only for assignments from instructor!

#5)  Students with multiple websites/blogs (aside from blog for assignments) must CLEARLY link
entities to one primary site that is then linked to our new DG website.

#6)  No more camera issues!  Email images from phone, borrow a camera, buy a camera, update
software, reformat, use a different computer....take the time to do whatever needs to be done!  No
       excuses accepted!

love,
Mr. D
